FINGER LAKES COUNCIL BOY SCOUTS TO HONOR FOUR DISTINGUISHED CITIZENS AT YOUTHPOWER DINNER

The Finger Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America will present Distinguished Citizen Awards to Marcia Dugan of Penn Yan, James Doran of Canandaigua, Maureen (Moe) Koch of Waterloo and Robert Goodman of Newark. The presentations will be made during he council's 31st annual Youthpower Dinner Saturday, February 11, at Club 86 in Geneva.
"Each year the council honors citizens who make a difference in their communities, especially those who serve our youth," says Dr. Joseph Burke, "and we believe we have selected four very deserving people for this year's honor." Burke, who is president of Keuka College, is chairing the dinner.
Dugan, whose Eagle Scout husband was president of the council, is a member of several college boards, including Keuka. She is also a strong advocate for the deaf and hearing impaired, and wrote a book entitled, "Living With Hearing Loss."
Doran serves on more than eight community boards and committees, including the advisory board of the Finger Lakes Council. His community interests include housing, development and history, as well as youth services.
While her children were growing up, Koch was active in school activities and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Today her interests include travel and tourism both as a volunteer and as a professional. She currently serves as Seneca County tourism director.
As a 39-year member of the Newark Rotary Club, Goodman has been honored four times as a Paul Harris Fellow. His passion has been raising funds for the Rotary's Polio Plus campaign to eradicate polio in the world.
The Youthpower Dinner is the Boy Scout council's major fundraiser each year. The dinner is attended by more than 300 community leaders and raises more than $50,000 for the Scouting program. Dinner attendees pledge a minimum of $175 per person or $200 per couple to Scouting.
In addition to the gala evening and prime rib dinner, a silent auction is held throughout the evening, and an Eagle Scout will share his Scouting experiences. Additional information on the dinner, or reservations, can be obtained by contacting Field Director Michelle Robbins at the council service center in Geneva. The number is 315-789-1166. Robbins' e-mail is mrobbins@fingerlakescouncil.org.
Each year, the Finger Lakes Council serves nearly 4,000 youth members and 1,800 volunteer adult leaders in Ontario, Wayne, Seneca and Yates counties.
