|
Albany - Praising the work of New York's correction officers as one of the greatest examples of public service, State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette), Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, today announced that the latest exam is scheduled for April 8, 2006 and the application and $30 filing fee deadline are February 20, 2006. Approved applicants will be informed of where and when their test will take place when they receive their admission notice.
"New York's correction officers are the backbone of our correctional facilities and the pride of our communities and State," Senator Nozzolio said. "It has always been my firm belief that New York's dedicated and hardworking correction officers walk the toughest beat in law enforcement and put their personal safety on the line everyday to protect the public, maintain discipline in our correctional facilities, and keep our communities safe. I encourage all interested individuals to apply for the exam and become one of the highly regarded and respected New York State correction officers."
Correction officers are responsible for the custody and security, as well as the safety and well-being, of criminal offenders in the State Correctional Facilities and Correctional Camps. Starting salary for accepted correction officer trainees is $28,444 per year, which increases after six months to $30,043. After successful completion of the one-year traineeship, ending one year after the employee's date of initial appointment to the Department's Training Academy, the salary increases to $34,742 per year.
