Poem of the Week

By Ralph J. Adams
TO AL KAMM

I was asked to Roast Al, Now this I can do,
For I have a few tales, in fact quite a few.
Now there is only one Al, you may say with a grin,
But can you believe t? He has a twin.

He has been a rancher, trucker and a cowpoke,
A preacher, a teacher and that is no joke.
Now as a soldier, he was in World War II,
General Ike, relied on him for advice, in fact quite a few.

Germany is the target Ike remarked.
And Al said "Not a chance"
First you have to go through the country of France.
And from that advice to add to his score,
If It wasn't for Al we would have lost the war.

Now in our choir, he would often ad-lib.
And if things went wrong, he would jab me in my ribs.
Stop the music, the tenors were wrong he would decree,
And Cathy would shout, who is running this choir, you or me?

Musicians and Preachers look better, he heard
If on their face they grew a beard.
So on his face a forest of white he grew,
Threw away his razor, his shaving was through.

Your years of preaching, be proud they were fine,
But don't let it go to your head,
As my wife has been preaching to me for nearly 49,

So with this roasting, teasing and all this jest,
You will always be on the top of my list.
Remember after climbing a great hill, you will always find
That there are so many more hills to climb.

Today is the time to rejoice and be happy,
Memories in this poem I tried to unfold,
To this precious man and very best friend,
Al Kamm, who is ninety years old.

God Bless You.

OUR SPECIAL WINTER

Have you noticed, have you seen,
Outside all the lawns of green,
We have no snow, the sun is seen,
Where's the winter, where's it been.

This winter's been so wonderful,
The temperature just like spring.
It has nature so confused,
I've even seen robins on the wing.

The farmers are not so happy,
It is too early for trees to sprout,
The budding and the blossoming out.
They are worried that the buds will freeze,
And ruin the crop on all the fruit trees.

For one to enjoy and the other to fret,
As we know winter is not over as yet.
The only thing we can do is pray,
That the Groundhog does not see his shadow
On Groundhogs Day.
