PHIL LOSSIFER

Media requirin' bleed an' feed news stories was exhibited when Florida's Orlando Star Banner BURIED story by Michael Kunzelman of Associated Press on page D-7. Was 'bout charity groups helpin' Katrina victims rebuild their homes. Amish volunteers from 'many states are gutting and rebuilding' homes in storm areas. Mennonite Disaster Service in Pa. dispatched over 700 people t' help repair homes. Mr. King, Amish leader of the effort says they'll be there fer years. This effort is paid fer by over six mil in donations. They ain't takin' govmint money! Salvation Army had 'bout 52,000 (yes, figger's are right) in storm areas. Took volunteer's a week t' rebuild a woman's home who din't have insurance. Surprise! FEMA doled out millions for faith-based organizations. United Methodist relief helped countless people find housin'. Quite frankly volunteer groups are "the only show in town" as times shift t' long term recovery. Story was centered in Waveland, Miss. How many other devastated areas are bein' helped? More than'll ever git credit.
A documentary 'bout devastation broadcast on CNN showed lack of assistance given by FEMA towards the small community. Six months later debris is still not picked up, shelter's not easily available. Some victims livin' in tents, medical facilities non-existent, schools not open. Pardon me, but this is the United States! Don't we have the wherewithal to help these people? There's campin' trailers sittin' in back yards which could be used. Seems our so-called turfeed bureaucrats can't think out of the box. How many other villages in same condition? Insurance companies splittin' hairs on damage reasons, to say nuttin' of weaslin' out of payin' anythin'! Point was made that water damage din't count, wind damage would, dependin' upon adjuster's decision. Validated by higher ups refusin' t' even talk to Media gurus, or Media, except for these ones mentioned even comin' close to examinin' total problem remainin'.
Govmint fundin' faith based organizations criticized by people insisting' on separation of church an' state functions. These people don't want religious groups usin' federal money fer compassionate work! Why? Does it matter where the money is comin' from or whose doin' the work? When govmint becomes involved turfees demand their piece of the pie. Michael Brown stated that was a major problem. He has become the poster boy of disaster plannin', while from Bush on down ignore conditions. We can fund a war, while wagin' war on our own who need the help!
What does Media tell 'bout relief efforts, an' Orlando paper no different than other venues? CNN guest has made movie 'bout efforts, wonder how many people'll pay t' see it. Back inside Beltway politicians spendin' megabucks on "Whose to Blame" soap opry hearins' designed t' make people think govmint cares. Money'd be better used helpin', not hinderin' efforts.
A comment here, for Republicans: The national Democratic Party has rigor mortis. They've not raised their voices aginst administration Rove/Card political machine wins usin' terrorism, patriotism as their battle cry. 'Nuff sed.
