REMEMBERING MUSIC AT CLIFTON SPRINGS HOSPITAL & CLINIC

Wednesday afternoon, March 1st at 2 p.m., the weather outside was frigid, with hard blowing, howling winds, but the 3rd floor dining room at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic was warm, cozy, and had about 30 residents and guests on hand to enjoy a musical trip down memory lane in the form of a program entitled "Remembering Music", a trip back in time exploring how music has been a part of our lives.
The program opened with a short skit by Jane and Jan, followed by a short talk about the ways we remember events and feelings when we hear a particular piece of music. We were reminded that music has been used for all occasions; the happy, the sad, the triumphant, and the sorrow of defeat. There was then a slide show timed to musical selections with a narration how we associate time, places, and people with one special piece of music.
There was another short skit, followed by a sing-along of some great, standard pieces of music known by nearly everyone here, including" I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "I Whistle a Happy Tune", "And the Band Played On" and a lovely folk song "Music in My Mother's House."
One participant had a real, old time dance card to display, one that would have looked perfectly normal in the hands of any young debutante, school girl, or neighborhood girl at a barn dance many years ago. Many of the residents had a chuckle, and even a comment or two about dance cards of old.
The program was followed by snacks and conversation. The hospital, the planning committee, the host/performers, and the hospital staff are to be commended for their cheerful efforts to bring programs like this to the residents of the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic, who can always use a visit, a smile, a kind word, and an ear to listen to the wonderful tales and history. These loving people need only a willing listener to share with.
Congratulations to all those involved.
