Midlakes' Beauty and the Beast Amazing Success

The Midlakes Theatre Experience of Disney's Classic Show, Beauty and the Beast, is another huge success and testimony to the talent, hard work, and dedication of our school and the community theater groups.
Sunday's audience was captivated in a way that one only expects when attending professional theater performances. Even children little older than the age of three sat quietly through the entire show, enthralling and fast paced as it was.
The sets, costumes, and lighting were the equal of a great many larger, professional groups, and a talented cast made the experience a delight from beginning to end. Cast members as well as sets were "flown" on and off the stage in what director Keith Childs referred to as a "monster show", meaning one of the largest, most difficult of shows to mount a production of. But the audience would never be aware this show was anything more difficult than a walk in the park, so seamless and flowing was it's presentation.
Beauty and the Beast is Mr. Childs' 30th show with the Midlakes high School. The musical director was new choral teacher Alicia Loomis' debut with the Midlakes Musical theatre Experience, where she's already proven herself up to the task. Mr. Childs and Ms. Loomis were joined by Sheila Ladd in choreographing the show.
The cast of characters, led by Bridget Saracino as Belle, Scott Whitson as the Beast, and with Jeremy Hairfield as Cogsworth, Willard H. Clark IV as Lumiere, Megan Webster as Mrs. Potts, also included Kimberly Rowles as Babette, Eli Saracino as Chip, Lauren Jones as Madame De La Grand Bouche, and Daniel Berger as Monsieur D'Arque in the enchanted castle, along with a large group of supporting cast members who portrayed enchanted objects in the castle and the townspeople of the village. The people of the town were played by Jesse Goodman as Gaston, Conor Hogan as Lefou, Robert Stobie as Maurice, and Rebekah Dressner, Sara Green, and Rachel Lisner as the "Silly Girls".
The rest of the cast, too numerous to name individually, were every bit as polished and memorable as the named cast, as they sang, danced, and did stunts in several production numbers that had the audience laughing, applauding, and truly wishing for more each time they appeared.
Our community is, and should be, very proud of the work done by the Midlakes High School Theater Department, along with the Phelps-Clifton Springs Community Theater group. The quality of the productions here is on a level that most school systems and community theater groups can only dream of accomplishing. Your support ensures that this kind of quality performance will continue here in our community.
