4-H Public Presentations Held in Ontario County

If you ever wanted to learn about Bow Hunting, How to Make English Tea Scones or Training Your Puppy you should have attended the 2006 Ontario County 4-H Public Presentation Day that was held on Saturday, February 4 in Canandaigua. More than 160 4-H members representing clubs from around Ontario County participated in the annual event. Youth ranging in age from 5-19 gave oral presentations to an evaluator and small audience on a topic of their choice. The presentations were given in the form of demonstrations, illustrated talks, dramatic interpretation, recitation and impromptu speaking.

The Public Presentation program is often cited as one of the 4-H Youth Developments most beneficial and rewarding opportunities. It is the one program most often credited by 4-H alumni as having given them an edge above peers in both college and professional careers. It provides a unique opportunity to develop a positive self-concept and poise, gain self-confidence before a group, learn to express ideas clearly, respond spontaneously to questions and gain subject matter knowledge. Through a progressive series of communication activities, youth learn to express themselves and ideas in the 4-H Communication Arts program.
