At our Children's Place, we have implemented a Woodworking Center into the School Ager program. School Age Coordinator, Barb Barkley wrote to Wayne Hart at the Lowe's store in Canandaigua requesting materials for our center and he graciously said, "Yes". Some of the materials were given were hammers, a steel back saw, miter box, child goggles, sandpaper, wood glue and aprons. We asked parents for donations too, and they have given us nails, goggles, hammers. We did get a small donation of wood. We are still in the need of wood though to make our center a success.
We were excited to start this center in February; we are going to start small, teaching safety skill as and the correct way to use a hammer, making progression to using a saw and miter box. WE are in the process of searching for a guest speaker on Woodworking. WE have some wonderful ideas of projects for the kids as our center grows and their skills develop.
