Midlakes Idol Concert Benefits UNICEF

The Midlakes middle school Youth to Youth sponsored the annual Midlakes Idol Talent Show March 24th. The show, modeled after the popular TV show "American Idol" had 23 performances that included comedy, singing, and dancing routines. Midlakes' own Mrs. Mancilla, Mr. Manns, and Mr. Swank were the judges this year. The proceeds of the show went to UNICEF. The show was planned and produced by the students, with just a little help from Deb Fisher and Cathy Morlock, co-advisors for Youth to Youth. Performers this year were: Chelsea Simmons, Emily Bice and Danielle Romaine, Meghan Plate, Caitlin Rogers and Alexis Keller, Cody Schmitt, Ms. Lane and Mr. Chase, Jenna Goodman, Ali Maher and Aliza De Wilde, Emmy Clark, Rachel Levickas and Kinsey Schmitt, Liz Cooley, Emily Rinaldo, Brianna Modzel, David Groff, Devan Lapresi and Chelsea Campbell, Rachel Tabor and Elise Gage, Mrs. Spoto and Mr. Vitticore, Chelsea Simmons, Emily Rinaldo, Rachel Donk, and Morgan Lapresi, Laura D'Amico, Ashley Clark, Kelsey Knitter, and My Life, Your Mistake with Gage Pendergast, Dylan Dowdle, Joe Burchim, Phineas Record, Mike Stone, Andrew Cardinale, Jennifer Cardinale, Ali Maher, and Aliza DeWilde.
Hilary Rich and Rachel Linsner, the 2005 Midlakes Idol winners, did a special performance.
This year's winners were as follows.
First place - Kelsey Knitter singing "Reflection"
Second place - Emmy Clark singing "As Long As I'm Here With You"
Third place - Ashley Clark singing "Break Away"
The faculty put together a song and dance number that took the audience on a trip back in time with stops in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and the present. It included some poodle skirt (do you remember those?) wearing, hand jiving teachers, 2 Elvis look alikes, the "Supremes", some Beach Boys, a disco dancing John Travolta look alike, some very 80's looking teachers, a rock band, and a smooth dancing Usher look alike.
Congratulations to all involved for a fun and successful show, and for using your talents to give to others. UNICEF is a great organization, and needs all the assistance we can give. Thank you to all!
