OUR CHILDREN'S PLACE FAMILY NIGHT - SCIENCE CELEBRATION
|
GW Lisk Employees Lee Coryell and Mark Jankowski assisted with Our Children's Place, February Family Night. Our annual Science Celebration was a huge success thanks to family and community support.
Magnetic and Electro-magnetic Center, Set up and Managed by Lee Coryell
Various earth magnets were arranged in clear plastic tubes such that the magnetic fields could be felt and observed by the children. They learned the "magic" of moving other magnetic objects without physically touching them. The "floating" magnets in the tubes were a lot of fun.
Simple electro-magnets were made using a paper clip, magnet wire and battery. When assembled the paper clip was capable of picking up another paper clip without "hooking" it as many first attempted!
The large electro-magnet demonstration gave the children a chance to show that they were actually stronger than mom & dad! The children would place a 3-lb. weight on the electro-magnet and remove it with ease. When mom and dad tired to do this the children would increase the power to the electro-magnet, increasing the field strength to the point that mom and dad couldn't remove the light, 3-lb. weight!
