Poem of the Week
|
Grandpa's and Grandma's
Quiet Day
Ralph J. Adams
Today I had nothing to do
So I decided to sit in my chair
I thought I would take a little nap
As I didn't have a world of care.
I heard a noise at my door
A crash as the door flew in
Screaming and yelling what a noise
Here comes part of my kin
Behind the couch for the toy box
And Guess What !! It was dumped on the floor
Umbrellas opened to make a house
Made a lemonade stand or maybe a store
Then next they said they were hungry
For peanut and Jelly bread
And a chocolate drink to mix
Soup and peanut butter on a celery sticks
I sat and crossed my fingers
Afraid that it will drop on our rug
I just threw up my hands
And gave a great big shrug
I snuck off to the sun room
To hide or get a little nap
And just as soon as I closed my eyes
Guess who jumped on my lap
Soon the day was over
And they went out the door
I knew tomorrow will be another chore
Because there will be more coming in the door
And I gave a little frown
Gosh!! I have eleven grand children
And they all live in my town
But just think I have eleven here to love
And they are close at hand
So many people's grand children
Are spread so far over our land,
So I take each day and love them
For soon they will be grown and gone
And soon Grandpa and Grandma
Will be sitting here all alone
