Sauerkraut Cooking Contest
|
Patcy Wheeler was the big winner in this year's Sauerkraut Festival cooking contest. She's become a "regular" in this contest and has enjoyed success each time.
Patcy's Pesto Kraut was the overwhelming favorite of this year's judges: Sr. Joan Sibola, Pat Hulster, and Judy Beechler. It won 1st prize in the "side dish or salad" category and was judged best tasting overall. See the recipe below.
Jane Gulvin won 1st prize in the "appetizer" category with her Beef and Kraut Roll-ups. See the recipe below. Steve Harasta was 2nd in this category with his Ham and Sauerkraut Egg Rolls.
Steve's Picnic Ham with Dumplings and Sauerkraut Gravy was judged best in the "main dish" category. (Recipe is below.) Patti Albert's Fat Albert Pizza was 2nd.
Steve also won the 1st prize ribbon with his Sauerkraut Chocolate Cake, entered in the "desserts" category. Janet DeMay's Sauerkraut Chocolate Chip Banana muffins were 2nd.
